When the crisp autumn air envelops Hilton Head, the island goes through a magical transformation into a spooky paradise. Every corner seems to whisper supernatural tales; Jack-o’-lanterns flicker with eerie smiles, cobwebs drape from ancient trees, and caramel apples waft through the streets. During this haunted season, the island takes on an enchanting, ghostly aura, with dimly lit pathways leading to mysterious happenings and spine-tingling adventures! Every year, Halloween in Hilton Head draws crowds in with pumpkin patches, haunted house tours, and family-friendly costume parades. So far, here are some 2024 Halloween events we’re sure you won’t want to miss.

Boos & Booze Cocktail Class

“Spirits” often refer to the supernatural entities roaming freely between the worlds of the living and the dead. Isn’t that chilling? At Hilton Head Distillery, “spirits” are welcome, but they’re not the kind you’re thinking of.

If you’re on the hunt for some thrilling cocktail inspiration, join the Boos & Booze Cocktail Class on October 10 and 24. This two-hour, hands-on class will lead you through the art of mixing up cocktails. You can take home a bottle from the exclusive spirits collection, too! Reminder: you must be at least 21 years old to attend. Non-drinkers are also welcome.

Pumpkin Patch

Now, let’s have the kids join in on the Halloween craze. Bring the little ones to Shelter Cove Park on October 18. Dress up and have the time of your lives in the free bounce houses, pumpkins, and games!

Pumpkin patches provide a delightful experience, blending festive fun with the joys of the fall season. You and the kids can connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities at the same time. Hilton Head Island Recreation’s Pumpkin Patch can be your family’s first try on this unique experience if you haven’t had one before.

Ghosts and Myths of Hilton Head Island

Here’s another one of the exciting Halloween events for adults and kids above 12 years old: The Heritage Library’s Ghosts and Myths of Hilton Head Island. Take your family to the Zion Cemetery and Baynard Mausoleum Outdoor Learning Center on October 18, 19, 25, or 26, and delve into the chilling paranormal tales of Hilton Head!

Catch captivating performances of historical figures such as Lydia Davant, Andrew Baynard, Cap’n Jack Stoney, Mary Kirk, Paulson Schwarzer, and Williams Eddings Baynard. You can also explore the island as it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, all while journeying beyond the cemetery gates. Listen closely to eerie ghost stories surrounding the Harbour Town Lighthouse, the Baynard Funeral Procession, and the mysterious Blue Lady.

Halloween Wagon Ride

Shall we take the fright down a notch? We don’t want the kids to be too scared! Hop aboard the red wagon for a journey through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve on October 19 and 26. This thrilling ride includes Halloween-themed games that kids under 12 can also fancy.

Halloween Wagon rides start at 10:00 AM; you don’t have to worry about the young ones getting too spooked. You’ll get plenty of time to enjoy the crisp autumn air and beautiful scenery of the forest preserve. Still, never leave your Halloween costume behind. It’s always part of the fun!

Halloween on the Harbour

What’s Halloween without some trick-or-treating? Head over to Harbour Town on October 27 for grand Halloween events. Children can go store-to-store for candy and participate in a costume contest with prizes for the best dressed. Adults can also join in on the competition!

The Halloween fashion show starts at 2:30 PM at the Liberty Oak stage, where everyone gets to show off their ghostly getups. Harbour Town makes Halloween memorable every year. If you’re looking for a 100% family-friendly activity, this is the place to be.

Why Visit Hilton Head on Halloween?

At Beachside Hilton Head, we believe there’s no wrong time to visit the island. However, certain seasons make it extra special. Halloween is one of them! Here are all the reasons you should schedule your Hilton Head getaway in October.

Mild Autumn Weather

October brings delightful weather to Hilton Head, with temperatures consistently ranging from 60°F to 80°F. The mild climate makes it an ideal time to have a blast at these Halloween events without the intense heat of summer!

Breathtaking Scenery

The island may look the same in October, as it doesn’t really experience a traditional fall, but the scenic beauty remains inspiring. Everyone will still want to explore the island’s natural landscapes, perfect for photography and nature walks.

Unique Local Events

Local businesses and communities come alive with Halloween events throughout the month. From themed parties at restaurants to special events in the parks, something entertaining is always happening on the island.

Family-Friendly Activities

Hilton Head promises events that cater to families all year, especially during Halloween. With trick-or-treating, costume contests, and themed wagon rides, there is no shortage of fun for guests of all ages.
