Distilleries draw people in with history and craftsmanship. Think about the centuries-old art of turning simple ingredients into smooth drinks. Then, there’s the sensory experience from the aroma of fermenting grains, the gleam of copper stills, and the clinking of glasses.
Distilleries are an absolute must-do for anyone who values good spirits and good company! If you’re on Hilton Head Island, several places promise to enrich you.
Hilton Head Distillery
Hilton Head Distillery at 14 Cardinal Road is the island’s only distillery. They have Rumslingers, a friendly crew behind the bar who’ll tell how each spirit came to life, what ingredients make it shine, and the techniques that give it its signature flavor.
Take a behind-the-scenes tour! Get an up-close look at the production facility, learn about the process, and see the stills and barrels in action. Moreover, there are two-hour, hands-on mixology classes that’ll make you feel like a pro. Don’t forget to hit up the shop after.
Hilton Head Distillery is open Monday through Saturday, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Call (843) 686-4443 for more information.
Burnt Church Distillery
Just a short drive from Hilton Head, Burnt Church Distillery — located at 120 Bluffton Road — blends rich Lowcountry history with spirits. Their story dates back to the Civil War era, and their philosophy is simple and timeless: local grains and ingredients whenever possible.
Burnt Church Distillery is open daily. Stop in for a tour or class, browse their shop, or have a glass (or two). No reservations required! Expect to find more than just excellent whiskey.
Rotten Little Bastard Distillery
With a name you’ll never forget, Rotten Little Bastard (RLB) Distillery at 2139 Boundary Street takes pride in crafting every drop right in their Beaufort Distillery. Their South Carolina-certified spirits are made from local grains and organic molasses, infusing each sip with a taste of the city’s character.
When you visit for a tasting or tour, you sample spirits and become part of the RLB story. Reservations are recommended, so dial (843) 379-5252 or contact them online before hitting the road.
Daufuskie Island Distillery
Hop over to Hilton Head’s neighbor for Daufuskie Island Distillery at 270 Haig Point Road, the island’s distillery. They craft small-batch rum, vodka, tequila, and bourbon in copper stills made in Alabama!
Relax on their scenic deck with a cocktail (or a mocktail) in hand, enjoy the peaceful island breeze, and bring your leashed furry friend along. Walk-ins are welcome! There’s golf cart parking, too.
