Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is a coastal paradise known for its pristine beaches, lush golf courses, and luxurious short-term rental properties. Many of these vacation homes come complete with enticing private pools, offering an extra layer of relaxation and enjoyment for guests. However, before you dive headfirst into booking your dream getaway, it’s essential to understand the nuances of pool heating costs. Pool heating can vary significantly based on several factors. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at these considerations. We’ll also introduce you to Beachside Hilton Head Island, a premier rental company that makes pool heating costs transparent to guests.

Factors Impacting Pool Heating Costs

  1. Pool Size and Depth: The size and depth of the pool are primary determinants of heating costs. Larger and deeper pools require more energy to reach and maintain your desired temperature. Keep this in mind when selecting a rental property.
  2. Type of Pool Heater: Hilton Head Island rental homes typically feature two main types of pool heaters: propane and electric. The choice between them can significantly affect your heating expenses, especially since propane prices can vary depending on the provider’s contract. While electric pool heaters are often times less costly to run, they can struggle during the coldest winter months to keep up.
  3. Time of Year: The timing of your Hilton Head vacation plays a crucial role in pool heating costs. Cooler months demand more energy to keep the pool comfortably warm. Even if daytime temperatures are pleasant, chilly nights will significantly impact the energy used to maintain pool temperature.
  4. Continuous Operation: All pools require continuous operation of the heater to ensure the water remains inviting throughout your stay. This leads to increased propane or electricity consumption and subsequently higher heating costs.
  5. Manual Operation: Pool heaters often require manual operation, which may include someone physically turning the heater on and off at the beginning and end of the stay. Many short term rental companies must include the price of the pool company to physically come out to turn the heater on and off.

Understanding Pool Heating Costs

When considering a short-term rental house in Hilton Head Island with a pool, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of the pool heating costs. Here are some steps to ensure you’re well-informed:

  1. Inquire About Costs: Before booking, contact the rental property owner or management company to obtain detailed information about the pool heating costs. Find out the type of heater, daily or weekly costs, and any additional charges related to pool maintenance.
  2. Consider Your Dates: Take into account the time of year you plan to visit Hilton Head. If your vacation falls during the cooler months, budget for higher heating costs to keep the pool comfortably warm.
  3. Evaluate Your Priorities: Weigh the added expense of a heated pool against your vacation priorities. If a heated pool is a must-have for your trip, allocate a portion of your budget accordingly.

What To Pack During Your Hilton Head Vacation

No matter what time of year you choose to visit, make sure to pack your essentials.

By the way, Hilton Head Island has an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, so you’re sure to have plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun.

Sunscreen

Hilton Head Island gets plenty of sunshine, so be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen with a high SPF too! Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day, especially if you’ll be spending time in the water.

A Hat

Protect your face and head from the sun with a wide-brimmed hat. It’s also a stylish accessory that can complete your beach outfit.

Trendy Sunglasses

Protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays with a good pair of sunglasses. Polarized lenses are especially helpful for reducing glare off the water.

Water Bottle

Always stay hydrated in the summer heat. We suggest bringing a refillable water bottle to the beach. Some beaches on Hilton Head Island have water fountains, so you can refill your bottle without having to buy plastic water bottles.

Sandals or Flip-flops

Keep your feet cool and sand-free with a comfortable pair of sandals or flip-flops. Look for waterproof options that won’t wear out in the water.

Light Clothing

The summer heat can be intense, so pack light, breathable clothing made from natural fibers like cotton or linen. The best items are shorts, tank tops, and sundresses.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Hilton Head’s jellyfish population! These captivating creatures are an integral part of the island’s marine ecosystem. From the graceful sea nettles to the quirky cannonballs, the jellyfish species are as diverse as they are fascinating.

In this blog, Beachside Hilton Head will introduce you to the world of Hilton Head’s jellyfish and provide you with everything you need to know to safely navigate their waters during your vacation.

Meet the Hilton Head Jellyfish

Get ready to discover the wonders of the two most abundant jellyfish species and learn how to make the most of your beach experience in Hilton Head.

Sea Nettle Jellyfish

The sea nettle jellyfish is a common species that can be found around Hilton Head Island. These jellyfish have bell-shaped bodies that can grow a few inches to several feet in diameter, depending on their age. The body can have a brown to reddish-orange coloration, with a distinctive crisscross pattern on the upper surface of the bell.

Sea nettle jellyfish can be spotted around May through October, with peak populations occurring in August and September. They congregate in large groups or “blooms,” which can make swimming in the waters more challenging.

Cannonball Jellyfish

The cannonball jellyfish, also known as the cabbage head jellyfish, is a common species in the waters of Hilton Head Island. These jellyfish have a distinctive round, “cannonball-like” shape with a smooth, gelatinous surface, typically light brown or yellowish color. Similarly, it can range in size from a few inches to over a foot in diameter.

Cannonball jellyfish commonly appear from June through September, with peak populations occurring in July and August. They also come in large groups or “blooms,” which can make swimming a little harder, but their non-stinging tentacles make them much less of a threat.

Safety Tips for Swimmers: What To Do When You Get Stung

The sea nettle jellyfish has long, trailing tentacles with stinging cells called nematocysts that stretch up to several feet in length. The sting can cause a burning or stinging sensation, as well as redness, swelling, and even blistering.

If you do get stung by a sea nettle jellyfish, get out of the water as soon as possible. Seek medical attention if the sting is really bad. Try rinsing the area with vinegar or salt water to neutralize the venom. Apply a hot compress to help alleviate the pain.

The cannonball jellyfish, on the other hand, has short, non-stinging tentacles. They feed mainly on plankton and small fish and are considered harmless to humans.

If you encounter a cannonball jellyfish while swimming, it’s best to simply avoid them or swim around them. However, there is no need to worry about getting stung.

Final Thoughts

These beautiful creatures are a vital part of Hilton Head’s underwater life, but they can also painfully sting unsuspecting swimmers.

Remember to always be cautious, keep an eye out for warning signs, and follow the safety information brought by Beachside Hilton Head. Go ahead and take the plunge, but stay safe and sting-free!

We all love South Carolina — the sun, the sand, and of course… gators! However, as much as we want to enjoy them from afar, it’s important for visitors of Hilton Head to be aware of the risks posed by alligators in our neck of the woods. Read on to find safety tips provided by your friends at Beachside Hilton Head Island.

Understanding the Behaviors of Gators

Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn. This means they are likely to move during the night, so it’s important to stay vigilant and watch your step if you’re walking around during these hours.

Gators may also be more active after heavy rains when they search for higher ground and can come across paths, yards, or even homes. Gators are most likely to be found near water sources such as ponds, lakes, rivers, and creeks.

During the night, if you ever are near these bodies of water, watch out for their eyes. Gator eyes will glow in the dark, so you might spot them from a distance. You can see them by using a flashlight if walking around in the dark.

Safety Tips

In some cases where gators feel threatened, they display aggressive behavior. Gators can become aggressive when provoked so it’s important to remember these safety tips:

The Bottom Line

Hilton Head has a lot to offer when it comes to activities, nightlife, and fun, but there’s one more thing you have to watch out for while visiting — alligators! As long as you stay vigilant, keep your distance, and follow safety precautions, then you’ll be sure to enjoy your time here in Hilton Head without any unwanted run-ins with gators.

As you may know, Linda & Jay acquired Beachside Hilton Head in October of 2022. As lovers of the beautiful foliage that Hilton Head has to offer, they were excited to bring some of their love to the houses in their program. Timeless Treasure received some of Linda & Jay’s green thumb recently. Check out the beautiful landscaping upgrades made to this beachfront beauty.

December of 2022 brought a cold front that lasted days in Hilton Head. Having several days in a row below freezing is extremely uncommon on the island. Sadly, so many tropical plants didn’t make it through winter. Ultimately, yards and planters were left looking bare.

Spring Has Sprung

The past few weeks on the island have been extremely warm. Islanders have eagerly pulled out their shorts and hit the beach. At Beachside Hilton Head, Linda & Jay were excited because the warm weather meant it was time to refresh the landscaping that didn’t survive winter.

Linda & Jay purchased tropical plants from a local store and headed over to Timeless Treasure for a timeless afternoon. With both of their daughters in tow, they were excited to brighten up the planters at the house.

Hammock at Timeless Treasure

Timeless Treasure Has it All

As Linda & Jay began gardening, their daughters, Ellie and Sophie, couldn’t help but enjoy Timeless Treasure at it’s best. The girls hit the haTimeless Treasure poolmmock overlooking the ocean to enjoy a calm nap in the sun.

After some relaxing time, they couldn’t resist taking a dip in the pool! The large step provides the perfect space for little Sophie to hang out safely while still enjoying the water. The pool is the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon as a family.

The Final Product

When the afternoon came to an end, Linda & Jay were so pleased with the beautiful planters at Timeless Treasure. Full of lush tropical foliage, the incredible ambiance at Timeless Treasure is elevated now. Book your stay at Timeless Treasure to enjoy all it has to offer.

Weather in Hilton Head Throughout the Year

Hilton Head is located in South Carolina, which is known for its humid subtropical climate. During the summer, it can get a bit hot, but when winter comes along, visitors can enjoy cool and refreshing winds.

So, if anyone is wondering what to do for every season of the year, Hilton Head has got them covered.

Spring

Since Hilton Head is located by the coast, it experiences spring a little earlier than other areas of South Carolina. From early March through May, guests can enjoy gorgeous weather at perfect temperatures.

During these months, visitors can head over to Hilton Head Island, enjoy the adventure park, and stay at one of the best resorts in the area.

Summer

When the weather gets hot and humid come summertime (from June to September), people can go to the beach and enjoy water activities. This way, they can cool off in the refreshing blue waters while enjoying the majestic view of the sea.

Some of the best water activities to enjoy include kayaking, fishing, or cruising with an incredible group of tour operators. Then, after a day filled with fun, they can head down to some of the island’s award-winning distilleries and restaurants.

Fall

From the ocean shores to the mountains, fall is one of the best seasons of the year in South Carolina. During this time, the temperatures start to get cooler and the distilleries and wineries produce bountiful harvests.

If anyone loves to play golf, this time of the year is the best time to play the sport. The wind’s perfect, the sun’s shining but it’s not too harsh, and the scenery is filled with brilliant foliage to create an ideal golfing atmosphere.

Winter

Unlike the frigid temperatures in the mountainous northwestern regions of South Carolina, the low-country Atlantic coastal regions have milder temperatures during the winter season (from December to February). Beachside Hilton Head Island Has New Owners…

After 14 incredible years, Stephanie and Todd have decided to hit the road. Literally. The previous owners are packing their bags and going on a grand adventure around the country. Something they have been dreaming about for a long time. Before they could pack, they had one important thing to take care of: find new owners for Beachside Hilton Head Island.

Shortly after meeting Linda and Jay, Stephanie and Todd knew it would be a great step for everyone. Linda and Jay officially became the new owners of Beachside Hilton Head Island on October 31, 2022. But… who are Linda and Jay??

Meet Linda…

Linda was raised in Georgia and spent most of her vacations with family in Hilton Head. Her parents purchased a condo on the island when Linda was a teenager. Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and cousins of Linda’s have all settled on the island making Linda’s Hilton Head family quite large. After graduating from University of Georgia, Linda moved to Denver, Colorado to attend University of Denver for graduate school. In 2015 Linda opened My Make Studio which was a decorate yourself cupcake studio. She enjoyed hosting birthdays, summer camps, classes and providing people with a creative space to play with their food (literally). When COVID hit in 2020 it became clear that her beloved studio would not survive the pandemic. After pivoting to an online model, Linda decided to bid farewell to cupcakes for good by the end of 2022.

Meet Jay…

Jay was born in Connecticut not far from the water. With a passion for fishing and eating shellfish, he always imagined he’d end up near the coast for the long term. Jay started his own tech company, Handy Networks, while in high school which led him to Denver, Colorado in 2007. Jay grew Handy Networks into a managed services company with 1,000’s of customers worldwide. With global relationships, Jay prided himself on the level of customer service and creative solutions in technology they provided to their customers. In 2011 Jay began to foster his two sons, Simon and Adrian who were 10 and 8 at the time. Years after adoption, he continues to support youth in foster care by participating on the board of a program called Raise the Future.

Linda & Jay Meet…

Linda and Jay got married in the summer of 2015 with Jay’s son’s Simon and Adrian by their side. In 2016 they gave birth to their daughter Ellie and in 2019, their daughter Sophie. They loved their life and their businesses in Denver until COVID hit. Living in the city during COVID was completely https://www.beachsidehhi.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/AdobeStock_58746038-scaled-1-scaled-1.webpastating as their extended family was all in their happy place: Hilton Head Island. By May of 2020 Linda and Jay made their way out to the island for “a few weeks.” They basically never made it back to Denver again! Early July of 2020, Linda & Jay moved their family of 6 into a ranch in the heart of Sea Pines. Instantly falling in love with life on the island and life in Sea Pines itself, they knew they had made the best decision for their family.

Linda & Jay Meet Beachside Hilton Head Island…

Jay sold Handy Networks in the fall of 2022 as Linda was wrapping up My Make Studio. The duo knew there had to be a new adventure in store for them next. Finally, when Linda and Jay met Stephanie and Todd and learned about Beachside Hilton Head Island, their fate was sealed.

Linda knew she could use her customer service experience to provide a welcoming experience for guests while building a strong and trusting relationship with the homeowners. Jay knew he could use all of his technology experience to optimize business on the backend. Jay proves to be extremely handy and enjoys that his calendar is no longer filled with business meetings and is now open to provide day to day care for each house. Turns out that pool heaters are quite similar to the heating and cooling systems of data centers. Who knew? Living in Sea Pines, Linda and Jay have a strong passion to care for each house in the program because, well, it’s their neighborhood too!

Beachside Hilton Head Island’s New Owners…

Look out for the new owners of Beachside Hilton Head Island, Linda and Jay, around Sea Pines as they grab dinner at the Quarterdeck with their sons or take their daughters to the Beach Club to play in the sand. If you’re looking for a vacation getaway in Hilton Head, they look forward to hosting you. If you’re looking to rent your house in Sea Pines out for short term vacation rentals, they look forward to caring for your home.

Hilton Head Island is so very fortunate the Loggerhead Sea Turtle population has decided to call our island home. But with this gift comes a great deal of responsibility. As stewards of this delicate land and the creatures that inhabit it, we have an obligation to preserve their natural environment and keep them safe. The public’s cooperation is both requested and much appreciated in this endeavor.

Adult female turtles will build their nests every two to four years and deposit about 120 eggs, covering them with sand to protect from predators. After about 60 days, the baby turtles hatch and the hatchlings begin to make their way to the shoreline. It’s an unfortunate fact of life that many of them fall victim to predators, such as birds or crabs.

That makes it even more important to help as many as we can. The best way to do that is simple, but very powerful. Turn off the lights. Since hatchlings emerge from their nests at night, they follow the brightest light to guide them to the sea, which should be the moon. Street lights and building lights disorient the hatchlings and if they head in the wrong direction, they can easily fall prey to dehydration in the sun or being caught by natural predators.

These artificial lights can also discourage the mature female from nesting and laying her eggs. To do its part, the town of HIlton Head Island requires that any building lights visible on the beach be shaded or turned off after 10PM from May 1 to October 31. Additionally, any windows facing the beach must be covered by drapes or shade screens.

According to the town of Hilton Head Island, guests can help to protect the sea turtle population by doing the following:

Hilton Head Island and the Loggerhead Sea Turtles thank you!
